Every country with a back catalogue or tradition in rock gives rise to artists whose longevity places them at the top of a special, sparsely populated tower of the entertainment world. Jimmy Barnes, Daryl Braithwaite and Richard Clapton are the tribal elders and absolute legends of Australian popular music. They’re playing on four evenings in the Whitsundays from 16 to 20 May, 2022. Yeeow!

It’s certainly been a long time coming for us and although sad we didn’t get to the Maldives, Daydream was lovely. Special mention to the “icing on the cake” Joe and the Black Sorrows. They were amazing, so full of energy and got a very relaxed audience to their feet. I’ll certainly be back again.

Amazing location, so much fun, great artists. The organisers did a fantastic job to replace Jimmy Barnes due to covid. we would definitely re book with you.
Despite headline act coming down with COVID, still a success
When you arrive and after the first day you find out the Headline act of Jimmy Barnes can’t come because of COVID, it naturally deflates you, regardless of replacements at super short notice.
Fact is, replacements were great. Diesel was good but The Black Sorrows were the show stopper/stealers with a magnificent performance thanks to Joe Camilleri.
Night 1 Richard Clapton, fantastic.
Night 2 Darryl Braithwaite – Could have been a whole lot better as band needed a drummer
Night 3 – Clapton and Braithwaite – TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. 2 fantastic artists each with a thousand song repertoire repeat identical songs from previous night.
Night 4 – Diesel – Very good indeed
Night 4 late show – WOW, the show stopper and rescued the entire tour

The combination of 14 Australian Top 40 albums for Cold Chisel and 13 charting solo albums, including nine No. 1s, gives Barnes the highest number of hit albums of any Australian artist.
Jimmy Barnes is a Scottish-Australian rock singer and songwriter. His career both as a solo performer and as the lead vocalist with the rock band Cold Chisel has made him one of the most popular and best-selling Australian music artists of all time.
James Dixon Barnes of Glasgow via Adelaide was just 16 when he joined the band Cold Chisel in 1973. Raised on tough soul music and gutsy rock, Jimmy bought his monumental passion and a versatile vocal style to this five-piece band who would eventually become the most powerful live act in the heyday of Australian pub rock.
In 1984 Jimmy went solo, his debut album Bodyswerve topping the charts, as did his 1986 album, For the Working Class Man. The #1 hits kept coming through the late 1980’s and early 1990’s with Freight Train Heart, the live set Barnestorming, Two Fires, Flesh and Wood, and of course Soul Deep – an album of R&B classics that sold almost a million copies.
In 2017 Barnes was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the performing arts as a musician, singer and songwriter, and through support for not-for-profit organisations, particularly to children with a disability.
Throughout his career, Barnes has won five Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards, including his induction into their Hall of Fame in 2005.
Jimmy’s music has been our national soundtrack for forty years and his iconic status in the history of Australian rock’n’roll is reflected in this induction. Lots of things have changed over his decades in the public eye, but the one constant is his powerful connection with live audiences across more than 10,000 gigs. Night after night. Year after year.

Braithwaite was 20 when he joined Sherbet in 1969 and in 2020 he is showing no signs of slowing down and/or stopping work.
He toured Australia with John Farnham earlier this year.
Sherbet formed in 69 and by early in the 70’s they had the first of 19 Top 40 hits with ‘Can You Feel It Baby’. Sherbet had several number 1 hits like Your My World in 74, Summer Love in 75, Howzat in 76 and another 16 or so top 40 hits in the 70’s.
In a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years Daryl Braithwaite is one of Australia’s award winning Hall of fame inducted performers.

Sherbet, a band which will forever remain
iconic in Australian music.”
In the 1970’s Sherbet delivered an unprecedented 20 Top 40 singles in Aus and were the first Australian band to top the $1 million dollar number in sales in Aus with a total of 15 albums and 30 singles to their name with songs like “Summer Love” becoming the highest selling single of 1975 and “Howzat” not only a No #1 hit in Australia, but also reached#2 in England.
Following the success of Sherbet, Daryl turned solo performer in 1988. His much aclaimed solo debut ‘Edge’, delivered four hit singles with “As the days go by”, “All I do”, “Let me be” and the incredibly popular “One summer”. The album topped the ARIA charts in 1989 and became the highest selling C.D in CBS Australia’s history.
Daryl’s follow up album, ‘Rise’, that came out in 1990 proved to be the biggest selling album in 1991 attaining multi platinum status.

Right now Daryl Braithwaite is showing no signs of slowing down. Daft Punk recently sampled The Sherbs’ ‘We Ride Tonight’. In 2017 Daryl was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame as a solo artist.
‘The Horses’, a song Braithwaite is now most famous for, is sung in sporting change rooms as a post match celebration, Daryl performs it at AFL and NRL Grand Finals etc. It is an iconic Australian hit.

Songs like “Deep Water” and “Capricorn Dancer” are touchstones in Australian rock history, without which we wouldn’t really know who we are or where we’re going.”
Richard Clapton is a much-admired and respected lord of Australian music, the performer and songwriter of so many epic Australian classics: Deep Water, Best Years of Our Lives, Goodbye Tiger, Glory Road, Lucky Country, I am An Island, Trust Somebody, Capricorn Dancer and Girls on the Avenue.
Richard also helped produce the second INXS album, Underneath the Colours (1981), which saw the beginning of their incredible rise to fame. RC also joined the supergroup – The Party Boys for a period before resuming his solo career.
“In 1999, Clapton was inducted
into the (ARIA) Hall of Fame.
In 2022 he will be celebrating
48 years in the music industry.”
When RC began his recording career in 1974, the land down under was still in the grip of cultural artistic cringe. Clapton plunged into the “deep water” and legends like Skyhooks and Paul Kelly, Cold Chisel, INXS, Midnight Oil, and hundreds of others, followed in his wake.
Clapton’s songs are still regularly played on the radio to this day,
In 2014, Clapton’s memoir “The Best Years of Our Lives” was published by Allen and Unwin. The book connected with people of all generations because it was not only a story of Clapton’s journey, but it also documented the story of the lives of thousands of fans who had travelled the same road. Young people – fascinated by how it was “back in the day” also became a new generation of fans. The book continues to flourish through “word of mouth”, resonating with so many people in so many ways.
