Jimmy Barnes

Jimmy Barnes has been the unmistakable voice of Australian rock for more than 50 years.

From his years fronting Cold Chisel to a record-breaking solo career, Jimmy’s music has provided the soundtrack to generations of Australian lives. His monumental voice, unmistakable passion and powerful connection with live audiences have made him one of the country’s most popular and best-selling artists of all time.

Jimmy recently extended his record as the artist with the most number-one albums in Australia when Defiant stormed to the top of the ARIA Albums Chart. It became his 16th solo number-one album, extending a chart-topping run that began with Bodyswerve in 1984.

His extraordinary catalogue includes For the Working Class Man, Freight Train Heart, Barnestorming, Two Fires, Soul Deep and countless Cold Chisel classics that remain embedded in Australian music history.

Jimmy was just 16 when he joined the band that would become Cold Chisel in 1973. Raised on tough soul music and gutsy rock, he brought a versatile vocal style and raw intensity to the five-piece band that would become one of the most powerful live acts of the Australian pub-rock era.

He has won six ARIA Awards as a solo artist and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2005, following Cold Chisel’s induction in 1993. In 2017, Jimmy was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the performing arts and his support of not-for-profit organisations.
